Bolton Abbey (2013)

The drawings for this were done on a very hot, very still day in June of this year. From where I was sat on the far side of the water there was an arch formed from the branches of the two trees on the right that perfectly mirrored the arches of the Abbey. The Abbey itself does not dominate the painting any more than any of the trees. I wanted the eye to travel over the stepping stones and find it, in amongst the trees.
